Civic Voice

Civic Voice is the national body of civic societies – to which we belong. We are represented on the National Civic Voice Council by Mary Ash, former Society Chair and Society Trustee.

Who are Civic Voice?

Civic Voice is the national charity for the civic movement in England. It speaks up for civic societies and promotes civic pride.

Why is The Norwich Society a member?

By being members of Civic Voice, The Norwich Society is part a national civic movement which provides us (and our members) with a national voice. Other notable benefits of Civic Voice membership include:

  • An All Party Parliamentary Group for Civic Societies established to represent the civic society movement in Parliament and help make the movement’s voice heard.
  • Policy development and influence enabling civic societies to speak with a collective national voice.
  • Representation at the Civic Voice Annual Convention and Annual General Meeting, the largest gatherings of the civic movement each year.
  • The Civic Voice Design Awards are the people’s choice for architecture and the built environment.
  • Advice on governance issues from the Charity Commission and access to a standard constitution.
  • Access to parliamentary outreach meetings, a range of lectures, training sessions, workshops and other events about how Parliament works.
  • Local networking through the Regional Forum, Larger Society, Smaller Societies and themed interest groups
  • The opportunity to contribute to Civic Voice's national manifesto which speaks as a collective voice on behalf of the movement.
  • Automatic registration with NCVO - the largest umbrella body for the voluntary and community sector in England - giving access to governance, organisational and strategy support.
  • National Trust day pass - Members of civic societies who join Civic Voice will be eligible for a free day access pass to the National Trust (worth up to £14).
