We look forward to welcoming every member and prospective member with an interest in the history of Norwich to this talk, discussion and meeting.

Peter Trudgill will give a talk on The Norwich Dialect.

Peter Trudgill was born and grew up in Norwich and was educated at the City of Norwich School, and the Universities of Cambridge and Edinburgh. He is a theoretical dialectologist who has held Professorships at the Universities of Reading, Essex, and Lausanne. He is currently Emeritus Professor of English Linguistics at Fribourg University, Switzerland; and Honorary Professor of Sociolinguistics at the University of East Anglia, Norwich. He has honorary doctorates from UEA; the University of Uppsala, Sweden; and La Trobe University,Melbourne. He is the author of The social differentiation of English in Norwich; The Norfolk dialect; and Dialect matters: respecting vernacular language.

All Historians Group sessions start at 10:15am for tea, & coffee (£1 in the honesty box) and the talk will start at 10:30am. There will be an opportunity for further refreshments and a chat afterwards.
