William Kemp, Shakespeare and Norwich

Speaker: Jonathan Hooton

Jonathan Hooton studied Historical Geography at Cambridge under Professor Darby. He is a Norwich City Tour Guide, a former Norwich Society Chairman and has danced with various Morris sides since 1973. It was helping to organise the re-enactment of Will Kemp's dance to Norwich by the Morris Clubs of London in 1977 that started his interest in Kemp. In this illustrated talk, he will explore Kemp's relationship with Shakespeare; what made him attempt this feat; analyse what he actually danced and place it within the context of the time and focus on what Kemp did in Norwich and the legacy he left.

All Historians Group sessions start at 10:15am for tea, & coffee (£1 in the honesty box) and the talk will start at 10:30am. There will be an opportunity for further refreshments and a chat afterwards.

The event is free but please book to ensure a space as capacity is limited.
