Future Norwich Campaigns

A-Boards

The Society has long been working to control the number and siting of ‘A’ boards in City centre streets. These are not only a visual intrusion but often create an obstruction for pedestrians and can cause a danger for people who are visually impaired.

After years of campaigning, Norwich City Council finally introduced a policy aimed at improving the situation in late 2016. However, the Society believed that this was neither been explained to the shopkeepers nor was it properly enforced. The Norwich Society's Civic Environment Committee monitored the situation and collected photographic and other evidence to present to the Council to try to improve the situation.

In July 2017 Norwich City Council sent Norwich business a letter advising of the policy and that it would come into force from August.

The Civic Environment Committee is continuing to monitor the situation and reviewing the policy's effectiveness.
